Augmented Human Lab Inspiring curiosity for science in kids with Google Cloud solutions

Augmented Human Lab, part of the Auckland Bioengineering Institute in New Zealand, wanted to scale its Kiwrious ed-tech project to inspire more children in science while freeing its small team from time-consuming infrastructure work. The lab needed a secure, flexible platform to support rapid growth, faster software releases, and easier ethics approvals for handling student data, and it used Google Cloud Platform products including Google Cloud, Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Build, Cloud Load Balancing, and Google Workspace.

Google Cloud Platform helped Augmented Human Lab automate deployment, scale globally, and strengthen data security. With Cloud Build and GKE, release time dropped from two days to 10 minutes, and DevOps tasks were reduced by about eight hours per week. The platform also enabled a projected jump in student queries from 400 to 100,000 per day and supported plans to expand from about 200 students to 5,000 in a nationwide pilot, with further international growth ahead.
