A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Appogee, a London-based app developer and consultant, built Appogee Leave to help organizations manage employee vacations and absences inside Google Apps. Faced with distributed teams (for example, Trinity Mirror’s IT staff across 30 offices), they needed a fast, flexible development platform that could integrate with Google Calendar/Gmail, let them iterate quickly, and scale as their user base grew.
They built the service on Google App Engine, using the High‑Replication Datastore, Task Queues and OpenID/OAuth and managing it via App Engine’s web console. The result is a reliable, easy-to-use product with no downtime, a five-star Google Apps Marketplace rating, customers in 50+ countries, and effortless automatic scalability—replacing spreadsheet-based tracking with a transparent, scalable solution.
