A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Aker Solutions, a global provider of engineering products and services to the energy industry, needed to cut investment costs and modernize field development after the 2014 oil-price downturn. The company sought to digitize its processes, create a reusable searchable record of past projects, and build rich “digital twin” simulations to speed decisions, improve safety, and reduce rework.
Working with Computas, Aker Solutions built a cloud-native platform on Google Cloud (App Engine, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Cloud Functions and managed databases) that delivers a searchable project database, digital-twin simulations, and collaboration tools. The result: faster, more objective decision-making, improved security and team collaboration, and roughly 20% average efficiency gains (about 200,000 hours saved on a typical million-hour topside project), plus faster estimates and ongoing plans to add ML-driven document indexing and automation.
