AFL Democratizing access to Australian football skills with Google Cloud

AFL, the peak body for Australian Rules football in Australia, wanted to improve access to elite coaching, skills development, and participation for people of all abilities, genders, locations, and backgrounds. To help address this challenge, AFL worked with Google Cloud Platform on a digital approach to bring football-handling activities and training resources to more users through a web application.

Google Cloud Platform helped AFL launch the machine learning-powered Footy Skills Lab, using Google Cloud technologies and TensorFlow-based expertise to compare user movements and provide coaching feedback. The result was a more accessible training experience that expanded participation and delivered content and coaching through mobile and web applications, helping AFL share the game’s skills and heritage more widely.
