A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Aclima, a San Francisco–based environmental sensing company, set out to measure and map hyperlocal air quality at street level — something that hadn’t been done in real time across cities. The challenge was collecting and managing an enormous, rapidly growing dataset from mobile and stationary sensors (including Aclima‑equipped Google Street View cars) while delivering accurate, block‑by‑block air quality intelligence for cities and communities.
Aclima built its enterprise data platform on Google Cloud Platform (Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, BigQuery, Cloud Storage and related services) to ingest, store, and analyze billions of sensor readings daily. The solution scaled to support large deployments and freed the team to focus on analytics, enabling nearly a billion data points collected to date, city‑scale air quality maps, peer‑reviewed studies, and collaborations with the EPA, labs, and community partners to turn raw data into actionable environmental intelligence.
