Ackstorm: Using Google Cloud Platform to help Edebé bring book publishing into the digital age

Edebé, a Barcelona-based educational publisher founded in 1888, needed to move beyond print and deliver interactive books and multimedia content to readers and schools across Europe and Latin America. The company required a multi-device publishing platform with a content-management system for editors, partners and users, plus the ability to scale on demand and deliver large static assets (PDFs, videos, apps) with low latency.

Ackstorm built a global, cloud-native publishing platform on Google Cloud (Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Load Balancing and Cloud CDN) that hosts 1,000+ books and 30,000 documents, supports partner and user-generated content, and serves static objects at high speed. The solution scales to 500,000 concurrent users, doubled Edebé’s user base in its first year, and increased sales and market presence across Spanish-speaking Europe and Latin America.
