A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
99 is a São Paulo–based on‑demand taxi service that connects riders with independent, regulated taxi drivers. Faced with the challenge of reducing passenger wait times and making it easier for self‑employed drivers to find and accept fares via a smartphone, 99 set out to build an intuitive app that would work at scale across Brazil.
By standardizing on Google Maps Platform, the app uses GPS to show nearby taxis, provide live map tracking, and calculate optimal routes so drivers reach passengers faster. The result: 140,000 taxi drivers registered on the map, 7 million iOS and Android downloads, about 3 million rides booked per month, faster pickups and a familiar interface that shortens onboarding and speeds up developer productivity.
