A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
17 Media, a fast-growing live video streaming and social networking platform popular across Taiwan, Japan, and Hong Kong, faced surging demand that strained its infrastructure. The company needed to reduce latency and downtime, scale analytics and streaming capacity, and speed up slow, error-prone release cycles that were taking up to one to two weeks.
17 Media migrated to Google Cloud Platform, adopting BigQuery, Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Pub/Sub, Cloud CDN, Stackdriver, Cloud Dataflow, and Cloud Storage to run and monitor its services. As a result it can ingest about 1 TB of data per day for analysis, cut latency from 300 ms to 200 ms (with a target of 50 ms), reduce deployment time from 30 minutes to 3 minutes, shift to daily releases, and accelerate development cycles by roughly 80%, positioning the company for continued growth and service diversification.
