A Google Chrome Case Study
Washington and Lee University uses 13 digital signage screens across campus to share events, sports updates and urgent alerts, but the Windows PCs powering those displays were slow, crash-prone and could take up to 30 minutes to show new content—unacceptable for time-sensitive messages like weather-related closings or emergency notifications. The university needed a more reliable, faster solution to keep the community informed in real time.
They replaced the PCs with managed Chromeboxes running Chrome OS (and Rise Vision in Kiosk mode), which auto-update, reboot quickly, and deliver near-instant content updates. Chromeboxes cost several hundred dollars less per unit, play HD video smoothly, require little hands-on management, and have enabled faster, more dependable emergency alerts—helping keep students and staff informed and safer.
