Vacation firm used number of active visitors to create a sense of urgency

Twiddy & Company is a family‑owned vacation rental manager on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, handling nearly 1,000 homes. Facing perishable inventory and a market that favored guests, Twiddy needed to convey real‑time demand on its site so visitors would book sooner rather than waiting and potentially losing their top choices.

Twiddy used the Google Analytics Real Time API to display the number of active searchers on key pages (server‑side queries via the .NET client, cached and refreshed every 10 seconds) and ran a Google Content Experiment to test the widget’s impact. The change created urgency and produced clear gains: revenue rose 18.6%, average order value increased about 11.9%, and conversion rate improved 7.9%.
