TiVo Inc., a leader in advanced television entertainment, offers a mobile app that lets customers browse, schedule and stream live or recorded shows on smartphones and tablets. TiVo needed to supplement its log-based tracking—which required heavy customizations, significant development knowledge and left data siloed—with an analytics solution that would clearly measure in-app behavior and content consumption.
Working with Google Analytics partner E‑Nor, TiVo implemented Universal Analytics using Custom Dimensions, a detailed Event Tracking model, Advanced Segments and Custom Reports to capture device, network and content usage in real time. The insights drove product and operational decisions—out‑of‑home streaming adoption rose 80%, active users increased 27%, mobile sessions and screen views grew more than 40% and play sessions climbed 54%—while simplifying reporting, anticipating server load and improving content discovery and recommendations.
