LaTienda is an award-winning, family‑owned online retailer that brings artisanal Spanish food and wine to customers worldwide from warehouses in Williamsburg, VA and Alicante, Spain. Working with WebStrategies, they investigated why shoppers in certain regions were abandoning carts—suspecting that higher shipping costs for a key product category for customers far from the Virginia warehouse were depressing conversions.
Using Google Analytics Event Tracking on Add‑to‑Cart buttons and advanced segments to separate Region A (nearby) and Region B (farther away), they found Region B visitors were 48% less likely to purchase when the high‑shipping product was in their cart. After testing a lower flat‑rate shipping model for Region B, completion rates for that region rose nearly 70%, while Region A conversions changed by only about 3.4%, confirming the shipping-rate impact and validating the data‑driven fix.
