Refuel Games, an independent studio founded by Sean and Anna Hammond, needed a way to give non-paying Rally Fury players access to game features without harming the user experience or interstitial ad revenue. To address low IAPs in emerging markets and find a quick, low-effort solution, Refuel turned to Google AdMob and implemented AdMob rewarded ads to offer in-game currencies and boosters.

Using Google AdMob’s rewarded ads—implemented in just a few hours and rolled out from beta to all players—Refuel grew overall ad revenue by 17%, doubled CPMs versus interstitials, increased CTR by 1.5x, and achieved a 95% fill rate, all with no negative user feedback; the studio now uses AdMob exclusively and credits rewarded ads for improved monetization and player satisfaction.
