Ribbit Network’s Automated Fleet of Distributed ‘Frogs’ Runs On Golioth

Ribbit Network, a climate science organization, needed a solution to manage a global fleet of low-powered, solar-powered microcontroller-based air quality sensors. They faced a significant challenge finding a production-ready platform for secure over-the-air firmware updates and remote fleet management that was both IoT-centric and avoided the high cost and confusion of larger tech providers. Their search led them to the vendor, Golioth.

Golioth provided its platform to solve Ribbit Network's core technical risk, enabling robust and secure remote firmware updates. The implementation streamlined their entire workflow, allowing for automatic deployment of code through continuous integration with the Golioth API. This resulted in a vastly simplified operation with minimal required DevOps. An unexpected benefit was the adoption of Golioth's LightDB Stream feature for data transfer, which simplified authentication and became their primary method for moving sensor data off devices.
