A Golden Software Case Study
The University of Melbourne, through Associate Professor Dr. Rory Nathan in Hydrology and Water Resources, needed a way to efficiently estimate flood levels using Monte Carlo analysis and hydraulic modeling. The challenge involved processing tens of thousands of simulations across many sites, quickly checking results for internal consistency and outliers, and producing high-quality images for formal reporting. Golden Software’s Grapher was used for exploratory data analysis and technical visualization.
Golden Software helped Dr. Nathan automate the workflow in Grapher using scripting to read multiple ASCII files, generate plots, adjust labels and axis limits, and export publication-ready images. The process enabled dozens of plots to be generated repeatedly, with 100MB of data processed in about five minutes. As a result, the University of Melbourne team could verify results later and reuse the plots directly in final reports, while maintaining precise control over the graphical output.
