Identifying Ore Deposits Using Lineament Analysis with Surfer

Valls Geoconsultant, led by Ricardo Valls, needed a reliable way to identify potential ore deposits for clients by integrating geophysics, geology, geochemistry, and remote sensing. In a project for Fura Emeralds in Colombia, the team used Golden Software’s Surfer along with lineament analysis, satellite imagery interpretation, and variogram modeling to analyze structures linked to emerald mineralization.

Using Golden Software’s Surfer, Valls Geoconsultant digitized and classified lineaments from aerial and satellite imagery, then combined them with geochemical and geophysical data to create a range correlation coefficient map and isolate target zones. The approach reduced the original study area by 60% and defined two prospective areas now being explored, helping focus further sampling and drilling efforts more efficiently.
