Case Study: City of Vienna boosts climate participation with Go Vocal

Vienna's Climate Team award-winning hybrid engagement project

The City of Vienna launched the Vienna Climate Team to help make the city climate-neutral by 2040 and to involve residents in shaping local climate action. To support this hybrid participation effort, Vienna used Go Vocal’s community engagement platform alongside offline outreach to reach residents across pilot districts and gather ideas inclusively.

With Go Vocal, the city ran a blended engagement process that combined online idea collection, workshops, paper submissions, expert evaluation, and a citizen jury. Across the first two pilot cycles, residents submitted 2,465 climate action ideas, 19 projects were selected for implementation in the first cycle, and the city allocated €6.5 million per pilot cycle. The project also won the Austrian Administration Prize 2023.
