Community Panels and Neighborhood Budgets Ghent goes all in for participation

The city of Ghent sought to involve its 260,000 citizens in co-creating their neighborhoods and strengthening social cohesion through a large-scale participatory budgeting initiative. To manage this complex process, Ghent partnered with Go Vocal, utilizing their community engagement platform to collect and develop resident-submitted ideas.

Using the Go Vocal platform, the city launched the "Het Wijkbudget" project, which facilitated the submission of nearly 1,000 ideas from residents. Go Vocal's technology supported the process from idea collection through to co-creation and public voting. The solution was highly successful, resulting in 150 approved projects funded by an allocation of €6.25 million, directly engaging thousands of citizens in the improvement of their city.
