Soft Skills Training That Boosts Employment

Youth Employment Service (YES), a South African NGO, faced a major challenge in helping millions of unemployed young people gain the soft skills needed for work. YES found that many youth could get hired for technical ability but were losing jobs because of missing workplace behaviors, and traditional classroom training was not practical for its nationwide audience. To address this, YES worked with Gnowbe and used its mobile-first learning platform, the Gnowbe Yes 4 Youth app, to deliver a 21-module soft-skills curriculum.

With Gnowbe, YES launched bite-sized, media-rich, mobile learning that included storytelling, video, certification, and analytics to track progress and identify high-potential candidates. The results were strong: more than 8,000 active users spent an average of 444 minutes on the app, completion rates exceeded 70%, and 20,000 youth were placed into full-time employment. Gnowbe also helped YES scale training efficiently across South Africa, with highly engaging content and easy-to-use tools for content management and learner analysis.
