Stoen Operator, a power grid operator in Poland, faced the challenge of integrating its Smallworld GIS system with SAP S/4HANA for asset management without overloading either system. The primary technical hurdle was efficiently extracting spatial data from its object-oriented GIS database, transforming it, and calculating deltas for synchronization. Globema was engaged to implement a solution using the FME data integration platform.

Globema utilized FME to create a nightly automated synchronization process. Custom FME scripts extracted modified data from the GIS system, transformed it, and loaded it into a PostgreSQL bridge database for transfer to SAP via an integration bus. This solution provided Stoen Operator with a single source of truth, eliminated duplicate data entry, saved employees significant time, and ensured daily updates without disrupting workflows. Globema's implementation successfully automated the process and achieved high data quality.
