MGGP Aero maps over 5 billion trees with Globema

MGGP Aero, a Polish company specializing in aerial data acquisition and remote sensing, faced the significant challenge of processing 19TB of publicly released LiDAR and geospatial data to create a comprehensive, free inventory of trees across Poland. To overcome the complexities of managing this massive dataset and building the application from the ground up, they utilized the FME Platform from vendor Globema.

Using Globema's FME Form and FME Flow, MGGP Aero automated the data acquisition, managed the massive production database, and orchestrated the processing to create the Regional Tree Crown Map. The solution successfully processed over 1.5 trillion LiDAR points to identify and inventory more than 5 billion trees, capturing their location, height, and crown dimensions. This resulted in the most thorough free database of Polish trees, which won a national award and provides invaluable data for conservation, forestry, and urban planning.
