Large Reseller Uses EFT SMB to Back Up Gigabytes of Cisco Unified Communications Manager Data

One of Cisco’s top U.S. resellers, a $9B technology solutions supplier to enterprises, needed a simple, low‑cost way to securely back up gigabytes of Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) call data from multiple dispersed locations and retain those backups long term. Their existing approach relied on scripts and unsupported, insecure tools that couldn’t scale, integrate with existing systems, or provide full visibility and Cisco certification for CUCM interoperability. Globalscape’s EFT SMB (with the SFTP module) was selected to meet these requirements.

Globalscape implemented EFT SMB on a Windows server, configured CUCM to push backups via SFTP, and added File Transfer Client, Timer, and Folder Monitor modules to automate scheduled offloads and prevent CUCM from overwriting older backups. The solution was operational in under an hour and now reliably backs up gigabytes of CUCM call detail records and logs daily, stores them in a secure remote location for extended retention, and provides improved monitoring, tracking, and integration with other IT systems—while eliminating insecure scripts and delivering U.S.-based support from Globalscape.
