A Globalscape Case Study
The Panama Canal expansion required unprecedented multi-firm engineering collaboration to design massive new locks, but teams faced dispersed offices, multiple languages, huge AutoCAD/Revit models, and inter-company trust and security concerns. Globalscape stepped in with its Wide Area File Services (WAFS) to provide a LAN-like file-sharing experience across the WAN and address byte-level differencing, Unicode support, encryption, and compression.
Globalscape implemented WAFS (and its Continuous Data Protection option for uni-directional content delivery), enabling four engineering firms across seven cities (Bellevue, Chicago, Denver, Panama City, Buenos Aires, Pune, and Amsterdam) to share large AutoCAD and Revit models securely and in real time. The solution eliminated slow web/FTP workflows, supported hundreds of engineers working on coordinated BIM models, and—according to the project team—made this level of global collaboration possible where it otherwise would not have been.
