Globalscape® Powers SAP File Transfers and Email Attachments for Enbridge® Gas Distribution

Enbridge Gas Distribution, Canada’s largest natural gas distribution utility serving more than 1.9 million customers, faced unreliable, manual file exchanges between its SAP billing system and third‑party vendors — including large nightly batch transfers and numerous daytime exchanges. Concerned about security, auditability and the labor intensity of manual processes, Enbridge evaluated secure FTP solutions and engaged Globalscape, initially using Globalscape Enhanced File Transfer (EFT) to address these needs.

Globalscape deployed EFT to automate and secure SAP file transfers and later added Globalscape Mail Express to enable sending large email attachments from within Outlook. The combined solution handled varied file formats, provided centralized reporting and auditing, eliminated the need to courier CDs/USB sticks for oversized files (bypassing the 35 MB email limit), and added 24x7 support — improving transfer reliability, security and operational efficiency for Enbridge’s billing processes.
