Reuters, the world’s largest multimedia news provider, wanted a new way to present photojournalism that prioritized imagery and deeper context over traditional headline-led stories. Reuters engaged GlobalLogic — through its experience design arm Method — to create The Wider Image, an iPad app to surface Thomson Reuters Pictures’ archive and give users customizable, photo-first storytelling and browsing.

GlobalLogic/Method built a visual framework and UX that foregrounds high-impact images and interactive formats (panoramas, sequences, data visualizations), added an “Explorer” browse-by-location/photographer/themes feature, and included social, save and responsive animation elements. The Wider Image has won multiple app-of-the-year awards and been praised in the press as an “unprecedented news photography experience,” raising visibility for Reuters’ photojournalism and delivering a widely lauded iPad product.
