Case Study: Large Global Bank achieves enterprise-scale, evergreen metadata management with Global IDs

A Global IDs Case Study

How Global IDs Met the Challenges of Scale at a Large Global Bank

Large Global Bank faced an enterprise-scale metadata challenge: a massive, globally distributed data ecosystem (one environment had 15 PB) spanning many database technologies, with no firmwide database inventory, no unified metamodel, and a need to avoid stitching together multiple point solutions. After a successful proof of concept, the bank selected Global IDs and licensed the Global IDs metadata management platform to provide discovery/profiling, data classification, catalog, lineage, glossary and data quality in a single integrated solution.

Global IDs worked with the bank’s team to build an automated, scalable implementation: creating an enterprise database inventory, driving automated rescans via Global IDs APIs with change detection (cutting scan work by more than 95%), and conforming diverse sources into a single metamodel so firmwide metadata reporting could be delivered. The solution keeps the central repository evergreen (full ecosystem rescan in 2–3 days) and now monitors about 1,000,000 databases, 43,000,000 tables and 600,000,000 columns, enabling compliance, privacy use cases and rapid adoption across the organization.
