Driving Growth By Giving Away Their Own Products

Slyde Handboards, run by founders Steve and Angela, makes concave handboards for bodysurfing and wanted a cost‑efficient way to raise awareness and sell their Black Carbon Fiber Handboard. After earlier success on Kickstarter, their challenge was to drive targeted attention and gather customer data while keeping marketing costs low.

They ran a 27‑day Gleam contest with 18 entry actions, promoted across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter (using the Instagram bio hack and urgency messaging) and aligned the prize with their product. The campaign delivered 6,000 impressions, 10,709 actions, 1,125 unique entrants and 850 new newsletter subscribers, generated 700+ UGC images, nearly 100% survey completion, a 20% conversion rate and helped sell out the Carbon Fiber Handboard.
