Thalia, a market-leading omnichannel bookseller in the DACH region, faced the challenge of quickly developing and integrating add-ons for its new self-checkout (SCO) terminals. The project required a flexible solution to meet the different requirements of its international bookstores and ensure seamless parallel operation with its existing manned cash registers during a multi-year roll-out phase. To address this, they partnered with vendor GK Software.

The solution was implemented using GK Software’s OmniPOS solution package. This provided app enablement, allowing Thalia’s own developers to easily integrate new web applications and features without interfering with the core system or requiring new software releases. The result was a smooth roll-out of 150 SCOs across 47 locations, with no notable errors and positive feedback from customers and employees. The project also streamlined internal collaboration and significantly sped up the development of new features, with the aim of converting all cash registers to OmniPOS by September 2024.
