The Marine Mammal Center worked with GiveSmart to find a better way to engage the many tourists visiting Pier 39 in San Francisco. Their challenge was to turn a small, highly visible educational sign into a tool that could capture attention in a crowded tourist area and build a text message list for sharing educational updates and opportunities.
GiveSmart helped The Marine Mammal Center launch a Mobile Messaging campaign that offered a free ringtone of a sea lion’s bark in exchange for texting “RINGTONE” to 27138. The campaign generated 2,449 new subscribers, with only six unsubscribes, giving the organization a larger audience for future mission-focused education about marine mammal rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation.
