Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation needed a more effective way to fundraise for its 4th Annual National Civil War Conference, where attendees spent much of the event touring historic battle sites and needed a flexible, mobile-friendly giving option. GiveSmart, a fundraising and donor management platform, helped the organization collect donations during the conference in a way that fit the event experience.
Using GiveSmart, the Foundation set up text-to-donate keywords for individual battle sites, displayed a live event thermometer and donor wall, and used a board-member match challenge to encourage giving. The campaign raised 3 times the original goal and more than $16,000, excluding the $5,000 match, with an average gift size of $229. Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation said it plans to use GiveSmart again for future conferences and expand text-to-donate to other channels.
