How American Foundation for Suicide Prevention raised over $294,000 with a Facebook dog walking Challenge

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) partnered with GivePanel to pilot a new, low-risk virtual fundraising event that could attract new supporters while still maintaining the personal, mission-driven connection that’s especially important for their sensitive cause. AFSP wanted a scalable way to engage people and grow its community through Facebook fundraising, but needed tools that would support meaningful interaction.

Using GivePanel’s Facebook Challenge tools and best practices, AFSP launched the “Walk Your Dog 50 Miles in February” challenge, moving supporters from Facebook ads to a lead form, email journey, Facebook Group, and fundraiser setup. The campaign generated $294,637.83 in total raised, 8,320 group members, 1,708 active fundraisers, an average gift of $168, and an 8.8 ROI, while also collecting contact details for over 3,000 fundraisers and growing a new community around the cause.
