With GitLab, TLM students forge path to DevOps and independence

The Last Mile (TLM) is a San Francisco-based education nonprofit that helps incarcerated and justice-impacted students build coding and career skills. As its programs grew, TLM needed a more realistic DevOps learning environment for students and a better way for internal teams to collaborate and manage projects across multiple classrooms and states. GitLab Ultimate was selected to help address both needs.

With GitLab, The Last Mile created a single platform for student repositories, remote instruction, CI/CD, and company-wide project tracking. The organization says this improved collaboration and transparency, helped students gain hands-on experience with real-world DevOps workflows, and supported scalable operations as TLM expanded to 24 classrooms across six states, serving 974 students and 379 Returned Citizens. GitLab also enabled students to export their work when released, supporting continuity into personal GitLab accounts and future careers.
