Case Study: OpenCores achieves accelerated digital design flow with GitLab

A GitLab Case Study

OpenCores moves to GitLab to accelerate digital design flow

OpenCores, the largest gateware development community with 300K+ members and 1200+ projects stewarded by Oliscience, needed to modernize its development flow to improve quality assurance and collaboration for FPGA and ASIC IP cores. Facing the challenge of introducing Continuous Verification (CV), standardized testing, and source control across a diverse community, OpenCores selected GitLab for its integrated single-application CI/CD and repository capabilities to enable a DevOps approach to gateware development.

GitLab implemented its integrated CI/CD pipelines and source control so OpenCores could begin automating CV for FPGA workflows (with plans to extend to ASICs), benchmark IP core quality, and centralize the full DevOps lifecycle. By consolidating testing, benchmarking, and collaboration in GitLab, OpenCores aims to accelerate development, improve test coverage and quality assessment, and reduce overall gateware design cycle time.
