National Health Company -How Dublin City University empowers students for the IT industry with GitLab Customer Case Study

Dublin City University (DCU), a leading Irish university for computer applications, faced the need to modernize its software engineering education from paper-based assignments to a single, open platform that provides source code management, continuous integration, and transparent assessment. To address this, DCU adopted GitLab (SCM and CI) — including GitLab Gold for education — so students and staff could learn real-world Git workflows and apply continuous integration in coursework.

GitLab was rolled out across project groups (initially via Community Edition and then campus-wide), integrating with DCU’s LDAP and running on a remotely managed virtual server to give end-to-end visibility and traceability of student work. The GitLab deployment now supports 2,529 repos, 472 project repos and has run 11,720 CI jobs, enabling students to own workflows, run tests and deployments, improve employability, and allow examiners to transparently review projects.
