Moscow Power Engineering Institute powers forward with GitLab-infused teaching

Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI), a public university in Moscow, needed a better way to support teaching and student collaboration as software projects became more complex and manual workflows started to break down. The Applied Mathematics and AI department wanted a DevOps platform that could handle CI/CD, role-based access, and project coordination for coursework and research. GitLab Ultimate was chosen to help organize student learning and improve workflow management.

With GitLab, MPEI added planning tools, granular permissions, repository visibility, and CI/CD automation to its teaching environment. GitLab also helped the department manage four learning and infrastructure services with just two staff engineers, while improving collaboration, feedback, and students’ understanding of modern DevOps practices such as Kubernetes and Helm. GitLab gave teachers timely insight into student performance and helped prepare students for industry-standard software development.
