Case Study: The Zebra achieves secure, streamlined CI/CD with GitLab

A GitLab Case Study

Preview of the The Zebra Case Study

How The Zebra achieved secure pipelines in black and white

The Zebra, an online insurance comparison company based in Austin, Texas, was struggling with a fragile CI/CD setup built on GitHub, Jenkins, and Terraform. With too many Jenkins plugins to manage, the team faced maintenance headaches, deployment downtime, and security vulnerabilities, making it difficult for developers to safely and consistently get code into production. GitLab Ultimate was chosen to replace the existing toolchain for source code management, CI/CD, and security.

With GitLab, The Zebra migrated off Jenkins and GitHub in under three months and consolidated multiple tools into a single, integrated platform. GitLab CI/CD, along with GitLab SAST and DAST, improved developer ownership of deployments, strengthened security and compliance for SOC 2, and helped eliminate identified critical and high vulnerabilities on four projects. The company also increased deployment frequency from once a week to twice a week, with plans to move toward continuous deployment.
