A GitLab Case Study
Haven Technologies, an insurance technology SaaS provider in New York, wanted to modernize its platform while protecting sensitive customer data and improving performance. As the company grew, its existing Convox-based setup began to hit limits, especially during peak release periods when GitLab became slow and users saw frequent 500 errors and failed pipelines. Haven Technologies used GitLab for version control, CI/CD, and container registry, and later moved toward GitLab Ultimate on Kubernetes.
GitLab helped Haven Technologies migrate to a self-managed GitLab deployment on Amazon EKS using Helm Charts, with UAT and production environments configured nearly identically via Terraform and Helm. The move improved scalability, security, and development velocity, enabled more regression and integration testing, and increased the number of security pipelines run on merge requests. Haven Technologies also stopped using the public npm registry, saving about $7 per user for more than 150 users, while GitLab CI automation freed up developer time and reduced costs.
