A GitLab Case Study
ExtraHop, a Seattle-based IT management company (300–500 employees), faced a multi-year split in its engineering org between Gerrit’s amended single-commit workflow and Bitbucket’s multi-commit merge requests. This division blocked meaningful cross-team collaboration and kept true continuous integration out of reach. To resolve this, ExtraHop adopted GitLab as its single merge-based tool and CI/CD platform.
GitLab delivered flexible workflow support (single, squashed, and bulk commits), an intuitive UI, and Auto DevOps/CI runners that made CI straightforward to implement. As a result, GitLab aligned veteran and newer engineers, replaced four loosely integrated systems with one, enabled web/email build notifications and prevented commits that would break production, and has seen 80% of ExtraHop’s repositories migrated—accelerating the company’s transition to full CI/CD.
