Case Study: BI Worldwide achieves 10x daily deployments and faster releases with GitLab

A GitLab Case Study

Preview of the BI Worldwide Case Study

BI Worldwide Corporate Product Development Team removed technology barriers to focus on building microservices

BI Worldwide, a Minneapolis-based consulting firm, faced a large legacy monolithic codebase, manual testing and deployments, fragmented toolchains, and a slow 9–12 month release cadence as it moved toward a multi-tenant, microservice architecture. To simplify SCM and CI/CD and reduce toolchain complexity, BI Worldwide evaluated options and selected GitLab (including GitLab Pipelines and Issue tracking, leveraging GitLab Ultimate capabilities) to modernize development workflows.

Using GitLab as a single SCM + CI/CD platform, BI Worldwide migrated source control, consolidated tools, and automated builds, tests, SAST/Dependency scans and deployments for both microservices and legacy monoliths via GitLab Pipelines to AWS/EKS. The GitLab implementation delivered measurable impact: 56,955 builds in the first 11 months (about 178 builds per day), an increase from monthly releases to dozens of daily deployments (up to a 10x increase) and services-per-release moving from 4 to 15, while improving security visibility and cross-team collaboration.
