Case Study: ANWB achieves modernized CI/CD and increased team autonomy with GitLab

A GitLab Case Study

Preview of the ANWB Case Study

ANWB has innovated travel for the past 135 years and is actively preparing for the next 135

ANWB, the Netherlands’ largest mobility club with 4.4 million members, needed to modernize a fragile, plugin-driven development toolchain that relied on Jenkins v1, Stash, Artifactory and Nexus. This fragmented setup caused manual interventions during outages, limited team autonomy, and discouraged pipeline innovation. To address this, ANWB adopted GitLab (Premium) as a unified platform.

By consolidating tools onto GitLab, ANWB now runs 322 projects across 57 groups with 100% of dev teams using the platform, enabling regular deploys, cross-team repository contributions, better CI/CD isolation, and increased team autonomy. GitLab’s integrated pipelines and Kubernetes integrations have simplified upgrades and cloud experiments (AWS/Azure/GCP), reducing operational fragility and accelerating ANWB’s move to a more cloud-native architecture.
