A GitHub Case Study
Zalando, the Berlin-based ecommerce retailer, was growing fast and needed to improve collaboration across 14,000 employees and 1,600 developers spread over 200 teams. Its mix of GitHub and Bitbucket created friction, slowing delivery and making it harder to standardize source control and teamwork. Zalando chose GitHub Enterprise to bring development into one central place.
GitHub Enterprise became Zalando’s cloud-only source code management platform, with issues used for project management and the GitHub API powering automation, metadata improvements, and merge/reminder bots. With GitHub, Zalando improved visibility and collaboration, increased deployment frequency through CI/CD, and could track key KPIs like lead time, change failure rate, mean time to repair, and deploy frequency in a portal. GitHub also helped support secure, compliant deployments with Dependabot and vulnerability reports, while enabling Zalando’s strong open source culture and contributions.
