Why the DLR Robotics Institute chose to roll out GitHub Enterprise when it saw an organic rise in Git usage across the organization

DLR-RM, the DLR Institute for Robotics and Mechatronics, faced growing pressure as Git usage rose organically across the organization and developers increasingly expected modern tools like GitHub. While much of the broader DLR still relied on Subversion, the robotics team needed a secure, officially supported platform that could keep up with fast-moving, open source-heavy robotics development.

GitHub helped DLR-RM roll out GitHub Enterprise, adding code review and issue tracking to support agile workflows across its software teams. The institute reported smoother development, especially during deadline-driven release cycles, with less chaos than SVN-based workflows and better support for complex, time-sensitive projects like the SpaceBot Cup.
