A GitHub Case Study
The Home Depot, the largest home improvement retailer in the U.S., needed to modernize its software development process and give engineers a more modern, Git-based workflow. The company wanted to improve productivity, developer experience, and collaboration while supporting a large, complex retail and supply chain operation. GitHub Enterprise became central to that effort.
GitHub helped The Home Depot streamline its development lifecycle with branching, pull requests, workflow automation, CI integration, and tools like GitHub Actions and GitHub Pages, while also supporting compliance and easier administration. The results were significant: code changes nearly doubled from 2017 to 2019, the company reached about 4,000 commits per day, and GitHub enabled faster delivery, smoother remote work, and rapid rollout of capabilities like curbside pickup and expanded delivery options.
