Seagate expands the potential of hardware through open source software

Seagate, the data storage company, wanted to expand the value of its hardware by building an open source software strategy around its CORTX object storage platform. But its developers were split across separate code hosts, making collaboration, CI/CD, and community engagement difficult. Seagate chose GitHub Enterprise Cloud to bring its code and teams together on one platform and to better prepare for working with the broader open source community.

With GitHub, Seagate migrated its code to the cloud, used GitHub Actions to automate issue and pull request management, and enlisted GitHub Professional Services to refine workflows, access controls, and DevOps setup. The result was a more unified developer experience, easier third-party integration, and a stronger open source community around CORTX. Seagate said GitHub helped remove infrastructure headaches and let teams focus on building software, while also supporting growth beyond the company’s walls.
