A GitHub Case Study
Qualcomm, a global leader in mobile and wireless innovation, faced friction from a rigid version control system and inconsistent ways of storing engineering, compliance, and policy information. Before GitHub, teams relied on hand-holding, emails, and tickets to make changes, which slowed developers down and made governance harder across thousands of users and distributed teams.
GitHub implemented a more self-service, repository-based workflow for Qualcomm, using GitHub repositories, pull requests, webhooks, and the GitHub API to manage code, policies, documentation, and tickets as a single source of truth. The result was less developer friction, easier compliance tracking, faster collaboration across time zones, and reduced manual work; by late 2018, Qualcomm had 37,000 repositories, 10,000 organizations, and was merging nearly 900 pull requests per day.
