Otto Group elevates developer engagement with GitHub Advanced Security

Otto Group, the Hamburg-based retail and services company, used GitHub to unify its software development across a highly heterogeneous organization. As it expanded digital experiences and mobile features, the company needed a common platform to reduce silos, improve collaboration, and gain visibility into its software security posture. GitHub and GitHub Advanced Security were key parts of that effort.

GitHub helped Otto Group standardize development with a shared innersource approach, GitHub Actions for CI/CD, and GitHub Packages for code management. With GitHub Advanced Security, Otto Group introduced centralized secret scanning, code scanning, and supply chain security, improving developer engagement and enabling “shift left” security practices. The result was faster delivery, fewer tools to manage, better security reporting, and more than 1,500 engineers across 60 developer organizations using GitHub, with security response shifted increasingly to developers.
