Kakao Corporation, a large mobile lifestyle platform and one of South Korea’s biggest Internet companies, struggled with fragmented software development after rapid growth and its merger with Daum. With more than 1,200 developers across six countries, the team needed a better way to standardize development, improve collaboration, and reduce the burden of maintaining thousands of separate repositories and tools. GitHub Enterprise was selected as the vendor solution.

GitHub implemented GitHub Enterprise to consolidate Kakao’s development workflow into a single distributed version control platform with code review, code search, social collaboration, and integrations like JIRA and Jenkins. The migration from SVN and Git was described as painless, and GitHub helped Kakao build automated delivery systems for mobile and server apps. As a result, Kakao reduced tool maintenance, shut down internal systems such as its code review tool, and improved collaboration, quality, and delivery speed through pull requests and faster build, test, and deployment cycles.
