Howest uses GitHub Education to train the next generation of programmers

HoWest University of Applied Sciences needed a more consistent, hands-on way to teach programming and manage student work across its computer science programs. Using GitHub Education, HoWest moved away from scattered submission methods like ZIP files and email, and built a project-based learning model where students use GitHub to collaborate, submit assignments, and learn real-world development practices.

GitHub implemented a centralized workflow for class examples, assignments, exams, feedback, and collaboration through private repositories, pull requests, Git workflow, and GitHub Actions. As a result, nearly all coursework now runs through GitHub, giving instructors easier review and troubleshooting, improving teamwork skills, and helping HoWest shift smoothly to remote learning during COVID-19 with no major disruptions.
