Case Study: Cesium achieves faster, more reliable open source collaboration with GitHub

A GitHub Case Study

Preview of the Cesium Case Study

Cesium leverages an open source community to support the development of 3D geospatial applications

Cesium, a platform for visualizing and streaming 3D geospatial data, needed a way to build a transparent open source community while managing reliable development and collaboration across many repositories. GitHub was chosen to support that growth, and Cesium uses GitHub Team, GitHub Packages, and GitHub for documentation and internal communication.

GitHub helped Cesium accelerate community contributions, automate CI/CD, and keep releases stable with branch protection and build checks. The company reported millions of open source downloads, over 36,000 forum posts, and frequent deployments—sometimes four to five per day—while using GitHub Packages to securely deliver updates to customers and open source users.
