Case Study: Wayfair achieves more efficient DevOps and a better customer experience with GitHub

A GitHub Case Study

Preview of the Wayfair Case Study

By balancing cloud and on-premises management, Wayfair creates a customer experience that edges out the competition

Wayfair, the global e-commerce retailer behind millions of home products, needed a more effective way to manage its large, distributed software operation while balancing on-premises and cloud development. The company had long used Git source control, but migrated major Webstack repositories to GitHub in 2019 to support its DevOps workflow, improve code review, and simplify tool sprawl.

With GitHub Enterprise Server and GitHub Enterprise Cloud, Wayfair was able to keep core code on premises while collaborating on open source work in the cloud. GitHub helped streamline automation and code reviews, reinforce DevOps best practices, and support innersourcing and code ownership across teams. The result was a cleaner foundation for new development, better security and governance, and stronger developer productivity, with measurable operational gains such as diagnosing a server slowdown in about 20 minutes and eliminating the need for multiple tools.
